- These contemporary tracks and popular hits are essential for any modern Swedish Christmas playlist.
- “Tänd ett ljus” – Niklas Strömstedt This song gives me proper goosebumps every time. It immediately transports me back to my first time experiencing a Levande Julkalendern (Living Advent Calendar) in Stockholm. It was held in a quaint courtyard, complete with enchanting lights and a choir. To top it all off, they were handing out warm glögg and pepparkakor (ginger biscuits). A truly wonderful memory that just oozed Christmas spirit.
- Måns Zelmerlöw’s Christmas Tracks The Eurovision Song Contest winner has a trio of gems to add:
- “Jag drömmer om en jul hemma” (I’m dreaming of a Christmas at home)
- “Tomten jag vill ha en riktig jul” (Santa, I want a proper Christmas)
- “December”: Though not strictly a Christmas carol, the mood and message fit perfectly, and I actually prefer it to the first two!

- “En ton av tystnad” – Sanna Nielsen A really beautiful track. It’s the kind of song that makes you stop and listen—it’s that lovely!
- “Jul, Jul, Strålande Jul” – Carola Admittedly, I have a bit of a love-hate relationship with this one. I’ll occasionally skip it if I’m not entirely in the festive mood!
- “Jag såg mamma kyssa tomten” This is the Swedish cover of the well-known song “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus.”
- “Den Julen” – Scotts I only stumbled across this track this year, and it was an instant hit. And since no Christmas is complete without Wham!’s “Last Christmas,” you’ll be pleased to know this is the fantastic Swedish version.
